Invitation to Trend Arlington Rink

Hello!

With snow coming down, and decorations going up, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! While the Leslie Park outdoor rink is not operational this season, our friends at Trend Arlington Community Association (TACA) are gearing up to open their rink*, and they've extended an invitation for our community to share it with them. We'd like to return the favour by sending them some Leslie Park volunteers to help out!

Each year the Trend Arlington rink is maintained by an amazing crew of volunteers, but they're always looking to get new recruits on the team. Taking care of an outdoor rink is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity, and it's just about the most Canadian experience possible!

TACA is in need of some new recruits to help spread out the workload. Experience is not needed, since all new volunteers will be teamed up with one of their veterans. All you need is a strong back, warm clothes, and a desire to contribute. Here is what you can expect:

  • The season runs from approximately mid-December to mid-March (weather permitting)

  • Volunteers work 1 shift per week, usually from 9:00pm - 10:00pm/10:30pm

  • Volunteers work on a 2-person team, where you and your partner will shovel/scrape the ice, then flood the rink

  • TACA has two snowblowers which are used when needed. Volunteers will be trained to use the machines

If there are any local high school students looking for volunteer hours, please reach out to TACA, and they will be sure to add you to their list. Students would help out with shovelling from 9:00pm to 10:00pm. All interested rink volunteers should contact TACA Rink Operator Dave Cajka by email at dave.cajka@rbc.com or by phone at 613-864-4849.

*The rink is located at 50 Bellman Drive
